<butt-ugly-fish>Urban Legend Zeitgeist: Taco Bell Roaches

Synopsis

A customer's jaw becomes infested with cockroach eggs after eating a Taco Bell taco.

See an example of the warning here.

Is it true? No. It is an urban legend.
Why?
  • Cockroaches do not lay individual eggs, they lay their eggs in an egg case called an 'ootheca.'
  • The egg case and eggs are unlikely to survive the food preparation process and cooking.
  • Cockroach eggs are unlikely to survive chewing.
  • Cockroach eggs cannot survive, much less hatch, in 'saliva glands.'
When?1998
