From _Human Sexual Response_, Masters & Johnson (ISBN 0-553-20429-7):

STAGE I: [Female] Orgasm has its onset with a sensation
of suspension or stoppage. Lasting only an instant,
the sensation is accompanied or followed immediately by
an isolated thrust of intense sensual awareness,
clitorally oriented, but radiated upward into the
pelvis. [...] Twelve women, all of whom have delivered
babies on at least one occasion without anesthesia or
analgesia, reported that during the second stage of
labor they experienced a grossly intensified version of
the sensations identified with this first stage of
subjective progression through orgasm. Reports of this
concept have also appeared from time to time in the
literature [Ellis, _Man and Woman_; Newton, _Maternal
        Emotions_].

It's not Beavis & Butthead's fault their viewers are as stupid as they are.
