I tired of all of those anecdotal data points, so I found some real numbers to post. This table is from _The Kinsey Data_, tabulations of the Kinsey's survey results (I think I saw the reference in _More of the Straight Dope_).

I think these broadly support the contention that the left usually hangs lower. Don't ask me to explain why the columns are different.
