Well, I looked on my bookshelf last night and came up with a citation. I have a book titled _Multiple Exposures_ _Chronicles of the Radiation Age_ by Catherine Caufield. 1989, Harper & Row. ISBN 0-06-015900-6
There is a chapter titled "The Dial Painters" which tells the story. Also, for more information, note 30 in this chapter states:
"This account of the radium dial painters and those who helped solve the mystery of their deaths is taken from a number of sources, including:
Lang, Daniel, _From Hiroshima to the Moon_, Simon and Schuster, New York (1959).
Goldmark, Josephine Clara, _Impatient Crusader_, University of Illinois Press, Urbana (1953), pp. 189-204."
