The alt.folklore.urban FAQ mentions the case of a child who was injured, but not killed, when a swimming-pool drain sucked out some of her intestines. Her family is now suing the manufacturer of the pool-drain cover; an article about the commencement of the trial can be found in the Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer newspaper online at:

The article mentions two deaths from the same cause, which are not currently mentioned in the FAQ and perhaps should be: "A California child was killed in a 1974 accident similar to Valerie's; in 1981, a boy in Henderson [North Carolina] was killed the same way."
