That'd NOT Be Dave's Butt, Bob

David Letterman has for years been a popular late night TV talk show host in the US. One legend has it that his contract specifies that his butt cannot appear on camera, so to allow him to make it from the central stage after his opening monologue to his desk, the audience and cameras are directed to say "Hi" to Paul Shaffer and the band.

Debunked: David Letterman's real reason for telling the audience to say "Hi" to Paul Shaffer on "Late Night with David Letterman" is to divert the camera from showing his butt while he makes his way to his desk.

Just watch the show. Also see Jan Harold Brunvand's Curses! Broiled Again!, in the Talk Show Tales section, for his authoritative debunking.
