"Math ain't *that* hard," says Nobel.

Debunked: There is no Nobel Prize for mathematicians because Mrs. Nobel was fooling around with one.

Alfred Nobel never married. He just apparently wasn't all that keen on math: he thought it more theoretical than practical, and he was a man enamoured of sciences that carried obvious practical benefit. Also there was already a rather prestigious Scandinavian mathematics prize in existence, so perhaps he did not feel the world needed another one.

See the sci.math faq for more elaboration on this.
