Sodavirus

Debunked: Soda cans are frequently coated with rat urine, which is deadly to humans

A "pass this on to as many people as possible" internet message says that soda cans are encrusted with rat urine during storage in warehouses, and if you don't clean the top of the can you will die. Variants: Grocery store clerk exposed to soda cans dies of "massive organ failure" because of rat urine/mouse droppings on soda can. In this version a virus is blamed, rather than the intrinsic toxicity of urine. Although it is true that mice and rats can spread various diseases, such as Hantavirus and leptospirosis, no cases like those described in the netlore have been documented. (Specifically, in spite of claims that the CDC was involved, the CDC has no record of this, and neither has the hospital purportedly involved.)
