In Dispute: Stranger at restaurant eats your cookies, you grab, later find you took his.

There are several variations on the same motif, differing by location; a variant with Kit Kat bars and a military version also exist.

This has ostensibly happened to so many people that it's clear most versions didn't really happen; it's not known, and is probably unknowable, if any version has ever happened. Douglas Adams claims this really happened to him, and wrote it up in one of his books; but elsewhere Adams notes (not refering to this story) that he tells some stories so often he no longer knows if they're actually true or not. The story preceded Adams version of it.. ["The Packet of Biscuits" in TCD.]
