Star Trek TriviaThere are other forums for discussion of Star Trek. Many people forget that the television shows and movies are FICTION, and as such, everything that happens in them has never really happened. Of course, explaining this to Trekies^H^H^Hers is considered not politikally correkt.
Nichelle Nichols and William Shatner both claim this, but there may have been other instances which had poorer publicity. At the time this episode first aired, race relations in the USA were a big news topic. In a television documentary about the original series, Nichols claims that none other than Dr. Martin Luther King told her that she needed to stay on the series after she told him that she wanted to quit because her character wasn't developing in an interesting way. Dr. King "begged" her to stay on the series because she was providing a positive role model, so she claims. In 2000, this kiss is a big yawn. |
