Debunked: Some part of Australia is antipodal to some part of N. America or Europe.

Australia is actually antipodal to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, straddling the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Tropic of Cancer between the Canary Isles and the Sargasso Sea.

Europe is antipodal (geographically diametrically opposite)to the South Pacific Ocean, and North America is antipodal to the Indian Ocean.

But Antipodean has such a lovely pseudo-scholarly ring to it, preferably when combined in a sentence with 'colonial', that Aussies and Kiwis don't expect to stop hearing it any time soon.
