Abuses Of Domestication: Captive Animals That Do Weird Stuff
Fainting goats are ordinary domestic goats with a hereditary muscle condition called myotonia, whose effect is that the muscles "freeze up" when the animal is startled. The effect is that the goat appears to faint at the drop of a hat.
Dancing mice, a.k.a. spinning mice or reeler mice, are a strain of laboratory mice with a hereditary defect of the cortex that causes them to walk with a peculiar "reeling", arguably dancelike movement. Cite: Colb & Wishaw, Fundamentals of Human Neuropsychology (dancing mice on p. 496). |
