In Dispute: Fox (or other animal) frees itself of fleas by immersing itself gradually in water; the fleeing fleas congregate at the last point above the waterline, and are either drowned or induced to retreat to something not a part of the animal's body (which the animal then releases or swims away from, leaving the fleas behind).

No reliable report of this phenomenon has been found; it's presumed false but has the proving-a-negative problem.
