A classic urban legend, with a myriad variations and some copycat instances.

Unknown: Old/ditzy woman puts dog in microwave to dry it out- it dies gruesome death/lives to bark again.

Documented: Cruel people and other weirdos will microwave pets. This is not a surprise.

The classic version is probably false: there is no documentation of it, although the vast number of variants make it impossible to disprove completely. Discussed in detail in "The Pet (or Baby) in the Oven" and "Hot Dog" in TVH, and "I Read It in the Paper" in TCD.

There are several instances of people microwaving pets for malicious reasons (e.g. a lawyer in the midst of an ugly divorce microwaved his wife's kitten): Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland v. Protokowicz, 329 Md. 252, 619 A.2d 100 (1993).
