Once again: Donald Duck is one of the most popular periodicals in all of the Nordic countries. When this topic came up on soc.culture.nordic some time ago, not one single person could ever remember DD being banned in their own country. The banning of a popular magazine should not be an easy thing to forget. It's easier to believe that this Wallechinsky, Wallace, and Wallace trio make a mistake than that everyone on the net from a particular country is suffering from mass amnesia. Unless anyone can come up with an actual citation from a Finnish source, i'd say the evidence is against your/their claim.

(The publisher once claimed one in four Norwegians reads Donald Duck every week. Astounding.)

I was attached/married to a Finn from 1976-1991. When the DD ban was proposed, we received a million (I counted) clippings from various newspapers read by our friends who were delighted to find something with which to give him a little garbage. (Never mind, it's a long story.) In any case, my ex- ended up calling his mother in Kuopio, and asking her to clip and send any Finnish news articles that she could find relating to the story. She did.

The proposed ban was real, but the motivations were political in some murky Northern sort of way. It was never intended to be taken seriously; someone was trying to make a point. I wish I remembered more, but I'm over 40 now, and the brain cells arenot what they used to be.
