In his weekly column in the Dec. 18 _New York Times Magazine_, William Safire recommends several books of interest to his fellow curmudgeonly pedants^W^Wlanguage mavens. The relevant paragraph:

"How does Olive Oil Lose Its Virginity?" (Quill, $8.95, paper) is the questioning title of Bruce Tindall and Mark Watson's entertainingly educational series of essays on "the enigmatic questions of contemporary life." I have dealt with the mystery of extra-virginity in this space (you slowly grind the olives at room temperature), but the authors break new linguistic ground with "Why is there a sperm whale but no ovum whale?" as well as "Why aren't there any grade B eggs" and "Where's the head in headcheese?"

On that last subject, I propose that a Spam posted to only two newsgroups be designated a "headcheese." Now, I wonder, am I in danger of falling victim to a tiny bot named "Cancelmouse(tm)"?
