Last Sunday (931114), 60 Minutes presented a 2-hour 25th anniversary special. When long-time 60 Minute man Morley Safer was being profiled, and his office was shown, the camera played briefly on a table and some shelves stacked high with papers and books. There on a prominent corner of the table was Peter van der Linden's brick^H^H^H^H^Hbook _The Second Official Handbook of Practical Jokes_ (ISBN 0-451-16924-7).

The paperback is unmistakable because of its colorful circus-poster-type cover. The image occurs almost exactly 27 minutes into the show. That the book was on the surface of Safer's mess (rather than being buried) suggests that Safer had perused it recently.

Tell me, PvdL, does Morley Safer own an autographed copy, like I do?

Hear ye, and learn this, our welcome newcomers: Peter van der Linden, known affectionately (and for short) as PvdL -- ghost-writer for the renowned Trelford Pinkerton and proficient historical Keeper of the FAQ -- happens to be one of the founding fathers of AFU, and is the Oldest and Grandest Hat. Perhaps you've noted the fervour [British spelling] at his recent return.

I suggest you scan for posts he's authored, as they will always be worth your time.
