FINAL PROOF THAT READING AFU DOES *NOT* MAKE YOUR BABY LATE
Date: 30 September 1994
Time: 3:40pm New Zealand time
Place: Wellington Women's Hospital
Event: Birth of Antonia Rose Kristina Caskey, daughter of Steve and
Kristina Caskey, sister to Thomas Caskey.
Antonia has arrived some five and a half weeks early, weighing 2,320 grams or 5lb 2 oz. Despite being somewhat premature, she is in good health. She is breathing unsupported, and all the blood tests etc are fine. She will be in an incubator for two to four weeks depending on her progress. Kristina may be home within a week, but is likely to be commuting heavily after that.
The labour was just over six hours, the contractions starting while Kristina was driving to work over the Paekakariki Hill Road (remember that Vicki, Derek?) because State Highway 1 had been blocked by a major crash.
Being the fruit of my loins and love being blind she is, of course, gorgeous. Even covered in vernix and lanugo.
Pain relief by Nitrous Oxide, Pethidine, and Partial Epidural. Pain by Human Nervous System.
I was invited to cut the umbilical (and did) and we were asked if we wished to have the placenta (we did not). I learned that it is an Italian as well as Maori tradition to bury the placenta. The phrase "lightly fried with a little onion and a white wine sauce" never came into my mind at any point.
Antonia was to have attempted to beat the record for youngest poster to AFU, currently 18 hours held by Isabelle Kirk, but we couldn't get the keyboard into the incubator.
I propose that the scope of this research project be redefined. The new proposal is that "Being a _female_ reader of AFU makes your baby late".
Steve "not too exhausted to post, not half as exhausted as Kristina" Caskey
PS: Her initials are _not_ a veiled reference to alt.religion.kibology.
Apologies to He Who Greps.
