That is, thank you, thank you. And now, let the games begin.

Someone remarked that it had been a short year. I agree. Luckily, I have a poem on that very subject, which has been rejected by all the best outlets for light verse on paper, and is thus suitable for electronic dissemination.

TO THE MAIDENS, TO MAKE MUCH OF TIME, or, THAT WAS A SHORT YEAR

Winter's gone. Before you focus
on it, Spring sprints back. The crocus, daffodil, and tulip die back,
bloom and perfume leave the lilac.
Summer's here, the die is cast,
grab those roses while they last!
--A thorn can hurt worse than a splinter; late Fall festers into Winter.

On a more sober note, I find in my recent rereading of Graves's "The Greek Myths" much to disquiet one who is appointed to semi-annual high office at midsummer; and I wish to assure Terry that, if he can't avoid oak groves and the company of mare-headed Maenads, I, at least, will plead vegetarianism at the ceremonial dinner, though I'm ordinarily very fond of Chinese take-out.

Best regards to all,
