Oh, God, not another post from a bunch of drunken AFU regulars gathered together to meet and backsta^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hdiscuss other AFU posters.
Yes. Deal with it.
But there's a difference. Madeleine Page is old. Really old. And we're here to celebrate her birthday before senility overtakes her and makes this abuse that much less satisfying. Now I won't say exactly how old Maddy is, but let it suffice to say it's older than 4.9999999% of a millenium. God, that's old.
Justin
Maddy has been attempting to deny the ravages of time by dragging the rest of us all over the New York/New Jersey area in a shameful attempt to recover her lost joie de vivre. We've been to the Strand. We tried to ditch her at McSorley's by going off to a little bar two blocks away that didn't have a line of yuppies stretching out the door, but she found us at the restaurant that evening. She forced us to drink more than we should have and dragged us to the @ Cafe on St Mark's, where their local tech guy tried to convince us that we didn't understand telnet. Now we're in Wayne. I'm having some sort of allergi reaction to something (Will, maybe?) but having a lovely time nonetheless. At least that's what Maddy wants me to say.

I'm everybody's whipping boy, looks like. Fine, I'm used to it. I'd say something mean about Maddi being old, but she's reading over my shoulder. She's gone--she's older than anything I own. She's so old, she can remember when the first two cars in Alberta collided. AFUNJI has been a real blast so far, especially driving with taxis in Manhattan.
Damn, she's back. Ow! She's a vicious, snorting ice weasel, that's what she is. I got her a present, but someone didn't mail it in time (damn you Robinson!). I can never remember if that's the proper punctuation.
Damn, I've got to get on-line, that's what they keep telling me.

Well, here we all are. We were sitting around the @ Cafe last night, attempting to post to AFU and being told by the tech support guy in a Sid Vicious accent, "Wot you've got to understand is that telnet goes down all the toime." Confronted with the long-range panixian expertise of the group, his response was, "Er, I'll be roight back." All was eventually righted, but by then the magic was gone and we contented ourselves with trying to talk to Justin even though we'd see him in less than twelve hours. He just has that kind of magnetism. I have to say good things about him because he's telling me how vi works.
Now, everyone is being mean to me so I'll stop without even mentioning how old Maddy is. Besides, y'all know already so there's no need for me to rub it in. I'm glad to be here, glad to have met Maddy's friend Luce (who's just as cool as Linda VanHorne), and especially glad the conversation in the room has moved on to gossiping about other AFUers and verbifying nouns. First of all, everybody's being truly unfair to Maddi---she's actually quite spry, and hardly wizened at all. The same could be said of just about everyone else, actually---some are red, some not, but there's not a oone of them who I don't wish would get online already. This place could use a livi living Will.
There'll be more after I make my escape and lock the door behind me, but people are having fun without me, and I can't have that, so that'll have to do for now.
--Angus.
Ok, so it's my turn, but if I say anything now Maddy (who will have the last word, I am told) will simply deny everything.
I think I need say no more.
Ian
Words finally fail me.

Mortified Maddi
(no *twirls*. I'm already dizzy enough)
PS I hate 'em all
PPS Happy birthday to Steven, who's catching up fast
Tom Cikoski was also here, avec famille, but left before this silly post got under way.
Many thanks to Rachel, Steven, and Juliane, gracious hosts, especially Rachel who cooked a wonderful dinner. We will remember this evening for a long time.
And to all you who only know Maddy from her posts, she's a truly wonderful woman, with a fine sense of humo[u]r and a keen wit. Lucky you, who make her acquaintance. We all wish her well. *twirl*

Hang your burnished head in shame, you language slaughterer, you egregious
verbifier of stout nouns. Stoppage of such linguistic mauling is required
forthwith. Reformationing, in short, is demandfully requiremented.
