Thomas C. Madden (tmadden@netcom.com) wrote: : A promptu (very slightly prearranged) gathering of the faithful took place
: on Saturday, Aug. 6, in Fort Collins, CO. AFUers present were Vicki
: Robinson, Ray "Spam" Depew, and Tom Madden. Also in attendance were
: Valerie Depew, Gail Madden, our unwitting but gracious hosts Debbie and
: Tom Moss (Vicki's sister and brother-in-law) and assorted Robinson, Depew,
: and Moss offspring great and small. Scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm, the
: Depew and Madden entourages arrived a fashionable 20 minutes late.

We all wish to thank Tom and Debbie Moss, once again, for being good sports and agreeing to host this little get-together, without realizing beforehand what they were really doing. Depews also wish to apologize, for arriving late and leaving early.

: With the Colorado participants suitably emulsified, Vicki produced her AFU
: photo album. "Oooh's" and "Aaah's" issued forth at the sight of [many
things]

The album is A Thing To Behold. Actual hardcopy photographs of many people, places and things that we have only read about on AFU. (Actually, there are even too many photographs to satisfy your cries of "GIF! GIF! GIF!") We learned many things from the album, such as - NZ is full of steam and hot air
- Paul Tomblin does not bear any physical resemblance to Kibo

: Host and hostesses had prepared a magnificant feast of barbecued ribs,
: corn sur le cobbe, baked beans, cucumber & onion salad, and a supporting
: cast of many delightful comestibles.

No RM oysters, though. The ribs were delicious, as was the rest of the food. The company was delightful, the conversation was scintillating, and the host and hostess(es) were great sports. We're still trying to figure out how to return the favour.

: An embarrassing moment occured when Debbie Moss asked: "Just how much time
: _do_ you spend on this stuff each day?" Propriety forbids disclosing the
: results here, but only Vicki gave a straight answer. Ray and Tom, after
: much hemming and hawing (and with their spouses present), lied. (Well,
: maybe Ray didn't!)

Well, maybe. We tried very hard to convince the unbelievers that we actually did have a life outside of AFU, but some of them (I'm sure) remained unconvinced.

We also discovered that Tom Madden and Ray Depew were Brothers of the N Scale Railroad, and that Vicki's sister is a famous, award-winning author.

We *have* to do this again sometime.

Regards
Ray Depew
