Well, here it is, the day after AFU East.

Fun was had by all who attended. Notable by his absence was our fearless leader, Joel Furr, who will NEVER know what he missed.

The group met at the Museum of Natural History at 11:30am as planned. After waiting around for half an hour for Joel to show up, the group got hungry and moved to the post office for lunch, where, as advertised, virtually every type of ethnic food imaginable could be had at the food court.

After lunch, we went back to the Museum of Natural History, where Diane Kelly, the world's foremost authority on armadillo penises, gave a fascinating and wonderful tour of the various animal exhibits, with some extremely interesting explanations of evolution and comparative anatomy. She would NOT, however, show us the vast collection of armadillo penises widely reputed to be held by the Smithsonian in a secret room. Therefore, I propose this addition to the FAQ:

Fb. The Smithsonian has the world's largest collection of armadillo penises.

We did NOT see John Dillinger's penis, either, despite Jim Cambias cornering a museum guide and threatening to tickle her silly until she told us where we could find it.

The group then toured the "History of the Information Age" exhibit, where many ancient computers were on display, including an Altair, the original Apple I built by Jobs & Wozniak as members of the "Homebrew Computer Club," a TRaSh-80, parts of ENIAC, UNIVAC, and more. We had originally wanted to see the memorial to Adm. Grace Hopper and the term "bug," but that part of the exhibit was gone.

After the tour finished, the group pondered dinner plans. Joel had proposed the Red Sea restaurant, but since he wasn't there, the floor was thrown open to suggestions. We all took Metro to Zoo station. When we emerged from the station it was raining. We took shelter under a convenient awning belonging to a Thai restaurant, looked at the menu, said, "Hey, this actually looks pretty good," and chose this particular Thai restaurant to have dinner. Dinner turned out to be excellent, and reasonably priced. Some beer was consumed by AFU'ers as part of dinner, but in moderation. No one puked on anyone's shoes. After dinner we all exchanged e-mail addresses, remarked what a wonderful time it had been, and went our separate ways to go home.

In short, a wonderful experience except for the non cooperation of the weather, and the non appearance of veteran AFU-er Joel Furr.
